Handbags
A must have! Here are 15 shops for handbags.

Henri Bendel
712 Fifth Ave (bet 55th & 56th St); 212-247-1100
If you’re not necessarily on a budget but you’re looking for the hottest designer handbags meant exclusively for the hip and the happenin’, you’ll find your haven at Henri Bendel. Those who might be described as matronly might want to look elsewhere. The brimming bag department at Bendel’s carries trendy, while at the same time upscale, designer lines such as Isabella Fiore, Kooba and last but not least, Chloé. Supertrendy? Maybe…but dare to rewear. These bags are too beautiful to keep in their dust bags.

Intermix
1003 Madison Ave (bet 77th & 78th St); 212-249-7858
Thought they only housed the hottest in tops and bottoms? Turns out their accessories are not so bad, themselves. I must admit, Intermix is definitely more for the 20somethings of the city, unless that is, you care to dress like one. (Although I’m not suggesting it.) There’s always a ton of attractive young ladies circulating through the racks to take over the hits of the past season. Without a doubt, Intermix surprised me with quite a unique and must-have collection of cosmopolitan bags…for instance, a grass green terry cloth bag with silver handles (around $200).

Kate Spade
454 Broome St (@ Mercer St); 212-274-1991
Need I say more? A designer almost all of us handbag junkies idolized from the beginning, Kate’s classic nylon totes are one of the most classic, staple designs in the ever-expanding world of handbags. If you haven’t had the privilege of visiting her bags lately, then you must…because they have come a long way from the simple yet classic black rectangular “Sam” bag we all have come to know and love. You’ll find everything from trendy handbags to classic leather styles in a range of colors, fabrics and leathers. Kate Spade caters to women of all ages and tastes. She has, without question, something for everyone.

LeSportsac
1065 Madison Ave (bet 80th & 81st St); 212-988-6200
Think if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen ‘em all? I beg to differ. These classic eighties faves are available in a plethora of solid neutrals and decorative prints, all adorned with their faithfully familiar logo. Totes start at $35, and shoulder bags are around $40, great prices for those of us on a budget yet who strive to stay stylish. Although these bags are undoubtedly trendy and in some respects like artwork for your shoulder, they're extremely practical, as well. Perfect to stick in your suitcase when traveling, LeSportsac has held onto their simple nylon unstructured design. You never know how many bags you’ll need while you’re gone!

Longchamp

713 Madison Ave (bet 63rd & 64th St); 212-223-1500
If you’ve walked around the streets of New York you’ve seen many a faux Longchamp floating around. But if you’ve ever compared the real to the fake, you’ll see what the imposters are missing. To Hampton society (and maybe West Palm, as well), a Longchamp handbag or two-tone tote is a sure sign of understated elegance. If you’ve done your homework, then you know the new foldable nylon bags are a must (only $100)!
