Loehmann's
101 Seventh Ave. (near 16th St.); 212-352-0856
Possibly the most dangerous place to find yourself shopping,
Loehmanns will never disappoint you. With departments
for everyone, from the business woman and her husband as well
as their teenage daughter, everyone will leave with a smile
(and a full shopping bag)! My best find at Loehmanns?
Undoubtedly, a gorgeous pair of Alice & Olivia faded blue
jeans, complete with a satin waistband, for only $60. If you
are looking to pay less than half of retail value, look no
further. The secret
just keep your eyes peeled. A beautiful
large leather tote, creamy to the touch in egg-shell white
or the perfect shade of chocolate brown
I found that
too (around $200). Honestly, you wont believe your eyes.
Nellie
M
1309 Lexington Ave. (at 88th St.); 212-996-4410
Without batting an eyelash, Nellie M wins the award for the
most amazingly comprehensive selection of denim. A boutique
like no other and undoubtedly a personal fave, Nellie M has
it all, from seven for all Mankind to Juicy Couture to Nanette
Lepore. Just a few short steps away from the 86th street subway,
Nellie M is well worth the trip. Match a white washed paid
of Juicy Couture khakis with a wardrobe of Michael Stars cotton
knit tees. For the final touch Nellie M hosts original accessories
to die for. But beware, Nellie M is in fact, ladies only.
(Who said that was a bad thing?)
Scoop
1275 Third Ave. (btwn 73rd and 74th Sts.); 212-535-5577
A more posh rendition of a run-of-the-mill city
boutique, Scoop caters to those who dress solely to impress.
Chock full of the trendiest designers, being in Scoop feels
kind of like being a kid in a candy store. Find the cutest
Juicy Couture jeans with zodiac signs detailing their front
pockets, and the widest variety of C&C California cotton
knits. Guys, Scoop even caters a line solely for you. Last
but not least, like assorted flavors of your favorite ice
cream, Scoop has the hottest in handbags and heels. Undoubtedly
an uptown girls favorite.
Searle
1124 Madison Ave. (at 84th St.); 212-988-7318
Dont let your eyes fool you into thinking Searle is
just another designer boutique. Searle makes sure to stock
its shelves with colors and styles other boutiques just dont
have to offer. Be bold and unique with a pair of burnt orange
Billy Blues parachute pants (around $150). With designers
such as Susana Monaco, Ticci Tonetto and Geren Ford, youll
be sure to walk out of Searle a better woman. (Well, at least
youll look like it.) And yes, Searle is another adventure
we can classify ladies only.
The New York Look
551 Fifth Ave. (at 45th St.); 212-557-0909
Is your
office midtown? Then youre in luck. So perfectly located
on Fifth and 45th, NYL is a must see. Why eat lunch when you
can put your milk money toward the perfect pair of slimming
black Theory slacks? Although another boutique just for girls,
you wont be able to leave empty handed. Searching for
the latest and greatest of Marc Jacobs heels? Theyve
got them (in every color). Ill even let you in on my
secret. At the end of each season, NYL clears out its racks
with the sale of the century. Bummed because you couldnt
afford those totally must have Ya-Ya pants? Well, now you
can.
