Pearl
Oyster Bar
18 Cornelia St (bet Bleecker & W. 4th St); W. Village;
212-691-8211; Avg $23
Chef Rebecca Charles is a genius when preparing seafood, and
New Yorkers know it. The wait for a seat is worth it - something
you'll discover as soon as you taste the bacon-
tinged clam chowder, the pan-roasted oysters, the caramelized
scallops, or the lobster and oyster rolls.
River
Cafe
1 Water St @ Old fashion St, Brooklyn; 718-522-5200; Outdoor;
$70 Pre-fixe
There's no place to dine quite like the River Café,
located under the Brooklyn Bridge and providing glorious views
of the East River and lower Manhattan. The continental fare,
including French and Mediterranean influences, is phenomenal.
RM
33 E. 60th St (bet Park & Madison Ave) 212-319-3800;
UES; $55 Pre-fixe
Chef-owner Rick Moonen (hence RM), formerly of Oceana, expands
his vision again. A sea-themed décor that would make
Ernest Hemingway happy creates the atmosphere, but the menu
and the finely prepared seafood seals the deal. Rich with
flavors that
are subtle, yet finely tuned, the elegantly prepared 3-course
prix fixe is a bargain at $55.
Steamers
Landing
375 South End Ave (bet Liberty & Albany St); 212-432-1451;
Outdoor; Avg $18
The best option for dining in Battery Park City, a window
seat at Steamers Landing provides the best views of the Hudson
River as well as the masses of people strolling along the
esplanade. The 150-plus-seat outdoor terrace allows diners
to enjoy amazing sunsets while feasting on fresh, savory seafood
dishes, including crab cakes, lobster, stuffed shrimp, seafood
pasta, and market fresh clams.
