The
Church Lounge
(@ The Tribeca Grand Hotel) 2 6th Ave; (@ White St); 212-519-6600
There ís nothing modest about the TriBeCa Grand and
its new Essentially the VIP room to The TriBeCa Grand's already
impressive Church Lounge, Sanctum is fueled by the amazingly
well researched and expertly executed vintage drink menu of
Milk & Honey's eccentric founder, Sasha Petraske. For
a p-u-r-r- rfect cocktail, try the Cat's Meow. Ironically,
we forecast sunny skies for those who indulge in the choc-o-rific
Dark and Stormy.
Suba
109 Ludlow St; (bet Delancey & Rivington St); 212-982-5714
The smoking ban hit a lot of New York bars like a ton of bricks,
but the resourceful mixologists at Yann de Rochefort's Suba
restaurant and lounge struck back with a vanilla, Kalhua,
and tobacco tea "Nicotine Cocktail." A dramatic
setting including a steel staircase over a manmade pond sets
the tone at this stylish tapas lounge and restaurant.
Verlaine
110 Rivington St; (bet Ludlow & Essex St); 212-614-2494
Gary Weingarten's house-infused drink menu is so unique and
impressive that Verlaine literally patented every drink on
it. These (often) Asian influenced specialty cocktails taste
healthy but we're guessing that there are repercussions for
overmedicating with them. None-the-less, there should be no
confusion over the quality of these infusions, particularly
the Lychee Martini.
World
Bar
845 United Nations Plaza; (@ 48th St); 212-935-9361
It shouldn't come as a surprise that the alleged "World's
Most Expensive Cocktail" would be found at the base of
Donald Trump's towering residencies across from the UN. A
semi-stuffy and pseudo-hip room sets the stage for this over-the-top
$50 cocktail, which includes Remy XO, a splash of Veuve Clicquot
and 23-carat edible gold liquid.
