Bicycling
Bicycling in New York is a favorite pastime for many. With the numerous greenways available to cyclists, New York City proudly promotes and sponsors those seeking to devise an alternate means of transportation or simply to get out and enjoy the breeze
while riding along. So what is a greenway? It’s an open space for the public that links many parks and communities around the city, including Battery Park, the Hudson River Park, and Central Park, which has many bicycle-friendly paths open to the public and has even shut down the streets to traffic during the busy hours of the day, enabling cyclists to pedal at will. There are many options to rent a bicycle in New York. You can go to either the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park, the Fountain of the Planets in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, or Pier 84 along the Route 9A Greenway. Just be sure to follow the rules to ensure a safe, healthy, and fun day riding throughout Manhattan. Don’t ride off trail, be sure to yield to pedestrians at all times, be careful when passing other path cyclists, don’t ride too fast, ride in the direction of traffic, use bicycle lights when riding at night, always listen for others, and be alert to your surroundings.

Roller Blading
Put your blades on and step outside to take part in one of New Yorkers favorite summer pastimes – roller blading. The greenways of Central Park, the East River, Battery Park City, Hudson River Park, Riverside Drive Park, and many others throughout Manhattan are excellent locations for gliding along on your blades. Central Park has an area blocked off that caters to those on blades and on different occasions throughout the summer, Union Square Park blocks off an area to create an outdoor skating rink with music, a disco ball, and free skates for use by the public. Roller hockey clinics and skate parks, including Riverside Skate Park in Manhattan and Mullaly Skate Park in the Bronx, are available for anyone looking to perfect their skills with in-line skating, shooting, passing, and much more.
